Why This NYFW Felt “Good” Different

The12ish_NYFW_Featured

I am by no means an expert on New York Fashion Week, and realize there are a zillion other places you can go for all the juicy details. But to be honest, it doesn’t take an expert to see this most recent NYFW felt different… in a good way.

The main shake-up? Designers are finally starting to design for the season we are currently in. Given there were days when it was about zero degrees outside, this was a welcome breath of fresh, albeit frigid, air. Add in lots of shifting locations and timeslots, and the buzz on the street is that while Fashion Week may be experiencing growing pains, it feels like it’s all for the best.

On a personal level, last week was also “good” different. When I was 23, I wanted to attend as many shows as possible for the wow and cool factor. But after working in the industry for a decade, I have a real appreciation for the work that goes into each show and now find more joy in supporting friends and watching their hard work pay off. We don’t always get to see our peeps in their work element, totally killing it, and Fashion Week is a great time to appreciate that.

A highlight for me last week was joining up with my friend Carole Radziwill to see one of my favorite designers, Karen Walker. Karen and her New Zealand-based team work tirelessly from literally the other side of the earth to deliver fun clothes and insta classic sunnies season after season. It’s so wonderful to be part of her family and watch the magic happen.

I loved the collection this season and was pretty thrilled to rock her patterned Callisto Long Sleeve Topfun socks and sunnies with my COS jumpsuit (sold out, but similar here). Such a versatile look – if you’re into it, shop more picks below.

Congrats to Karen, her team and all the hard working fashionistas out there for another successful Fashion Week!
