My dog got married last night, and it was insane.
You already know me as a weirdo dog mom, but you may not know that raising awareness and money for puppy mill rescues is my life’s passion (other than shopping, of course). I’ve spent the past two years working with Amanda Hearst’s anti-puppy mill organization, Friends of Finn, to help spread the word and last night we did just that, in the most fun, insane and chic way ever!
The idea was that my dog (@ToastMeetsWorld) and Amanda’s dog (@FriendsOfFinn) would get married in an over-the-top production, complete with a wedding “registry” allowing people to pledge money to National Dog Mill Rescue, all hosted by the lovely people at Zola Wedding Registry.
I knew it was going to be big, but what I didn’t know is that my dog was basically going to have the Storied New York wedding I never had. Picture if Nancy Meyers wrote a script about dog nuptials, because that is pretty much how the night felt!
There were so many amazing details, but first: the fashion. Toast’s dress was custom made couture, courtesy of that little known label Marchesa. That’s right, my dog walked down the aisle in custom MARCHESA, and obviously it was beyond gorgeous! Visiting the showroom for the fitting and seeing the seamstresses at work was probably the most surreal part of everything, and a sharp contrast to finding my own wedding dress (snagged on sale at Shopbop). Topped off with a $130K diamond necklace from London Jewelers, Toast was basically Princess Kate for a day (Does that make me Pippa?! No?).
As mother of the bride, I had to fend for myself in the fashion department (isn’t that always how it is) and thought this MSGM Lace Jumpsuit struck the right look-at-me-but-really-look-at-her vibe. Stuart Weitzman gave me my own Cinderella moment with the gift of these Red Lace-up Flats (thank you SW!). I topped it all off with makeup by Vensette (as usual) and bling by Sarah Chloe, including this Organic Lariat, this Triple Organic Ring (similar here) and these Sarah Chloe x Monica Rose Inez Earrings.
As for Toast’s BFF bridesmaid squad — Carol Radzwill’s @TheRealBabyDog, @ChloeTheMiniFrenchie, @EllaBeanTheDog, and of course Toast’s sisters @UnderpantsTheDog and @MuppetsRevenge — they looked lovely as ever in matching pink Cashmere Sweaters and leashes courtesy of Canine Styles.
In other “pinch me” details, no wedding is complete without a Foxy Godfather, and I couldn’t have asked for better than Barney’s front man Simon Doonan himself. And for ceremony officiant, we were beyond lucky to have NY Post columnist Cindy Adams doing the marrying. Wedding guru to the stars Mindy Weiss was generous enough to donate the gorgeous chuppah and Toast’s bouquet, courtesy of Tantawan Bloom. And as for the cake toppers? They were hand made by Martha Stewart Weddings Editorial Director Darcy Miller, so NBD.
Turns out Toast has way more influential friends than I do, as guests included Georgina Bloomberg, The Dogist, DJ Becka Diamond and Real Housewives Sonja Morgan and Ramona Singer. Not to mention plenty of pup-arazzi. And yes, White Girl Rosé was the drink of the night.
All in all, it was a total fairytale evening. The best part without a doubt (ok, other than Marchesa) was seeing all of the enthusiasm and support out there for puppy mill awareness. It can be hard to feel like you’re really making a difference, but last night I felt it in spades.
If you want to get in on the action, the registry is still open and you can check it out here. And for more details, see Martha Stewart Wedding’s coverage here. And finally, a big thank you to the many people who came together last night to make the magic happen. Now I can say I’ve had the New York wedding of my dreams (even if it wasn’t technically mine!).
