Up Your Exfoliation Game for Glowing Spring Skin

The best part about spring (other than open toed shoes) is the mass de-hibernation that takes place this time of year. Of course dry, dull winter skin isn’t going to cut it now that we’re all showing our faces again, and that’s where exfoliating comes in.

I’m no skin expert, but I’ve learned that exfoliating (ie removing dead skin cells) 1. really is the best way to get glowing, short of a weekend in the Caribbean and 2. actually isn’t as obvious/foolproof as it seems.

I used to think physical exfoliation was the only option. I was devoted to my Clarisonic until my derm pointed out micro tears in my skin. Yes, I was probably doing it wrong but it scared me into giving chemical exfoliants a try. Right away, I couldn’t believe how much better my skin looked.

What really got me hooked was the cult favorite Lotion P50 by Biologique Recherche (deemed Jesus in a Bottle by people in the know). It smells like you are splashing kitchen cleanser on your face so I was skeptical at first, but it’s been a game changer for me (beauty guru Emily Weiss is a fan as well). It makes my skin noticeably clearer and more luminous and I seriously can’t live without it.

Recently I tried another brand with a growing cult following, Sunday Riley (who first caught my attention here on Man Repeller). Earlier this year during Fashion Week they did the backstage skincare at shows like Stella McCartney, and whatever’s good enough for Stella is good enough for me!

I was instantly into their popular serum, Good Genes, a combo of lactic acid and botanicals. I follow it up with their new moisturizer, Tidal, for even more chemical exfoliation in the form of hyaluronic acid. Yes, really dropping a lot of acid and loving how fresh and new my face is feeling 🙂 Also there’s no way around it, the packaging couldn’t be better and that is just icing on the cake.

Of course you need to see what works for you, but for me, using these three products together really gets me glowing after six months of winter. Plus, they’re all super gentle — my skin feels moisturized without any trace of irritation or redness, which is always a concern with exfoliation and words like “acid.”

What about you, how do you switch up your skincare for spring? I’d love to know!
