Fake It Till You Make It

Everyone’s faking it…fur, that is. When Gucci banned the use of real fur in October of this year, joining the ranks of Ralph Lauren, Armani, Calvin Klein, and more, multiple high-end designers advertising high-quality faux fur popped up. The real vs. faux fur divide is a complicated issue with a series of seemingly endless ethical dilemmas, specifically where do you draw the line? Is shearling out? What about your collection of leather handbags? Toss your classic UGGs? Can you not wear your grandma’s vintage furs?

I’ve been a pescatarian for eight years now, so I’m no stranger to these types of dialogues. It seems like many are moving to the right side of history when it comes to the debate, and while I still wear my beloved cobalt blue Chanel and slip on my UGGs to get my morning coffee, I have made the shift to faux fur, starting with these three chic coats.

Part coat, part cape, this House of Fluff’s Yeti Convertible Oversized Faux Fur Coat is a modern take on your great grandma’s old mink and looks effortlessly chic with winter white jeans or a ball gown.

A bit more budget-friendly (and Man Repeller approved!), the J. Crew Teddy Coat in Striped Plush Fleece is what I imagine it feels like to be hugged by a giant teddy bear.

I knew I had to try Unreal Fur’s Dream Jacket when I saw it on Eva Chen, and I wasn’t disappointed – it provides the perfect pop of color.
